Balikpapan, Indonesia

After a trip to Manila (Philippines), Chung-Li and Hsinchu (Taiwan), I landed in Jakarta again on 26 January and went straight to jl Jaksa, the usual place.

On 28 January I went to Taman Mekarsari just ouside Jakarta, it’s supposed to be Asia’s largest fruit garden. However, I came to see the Amorphophallus titanum, one of the world’s biggest flowers. It flowers only once every 3 years or so, and after a week the flower dies. The place was closed because of Soeharto’s death the day before, but with the help of a friendly local I met in a nearby food stall I managed to convince the guards to let me in to see the flower. Unfortunately, the flower was already about to die.

On 31 January I flew back to Balikpapan again.

GPS track log (incomplete due to flat battery). Taipei to Jakarta.

Soeharto is dead.
