Buying marble
Thursday, 16 August 2012Taman Rasuna, Jakarta
The last two days have been spent hand picking marble slabs and tiles from a warehouse in Cipondoh, Tangerang, to be used in our renovation project.
Here is a summary of what was picked.
– 33 slabs of “Balocci Ujung Pandang”, each measuring about 1.8 x 1.8 meters. To be used at first floor.
– 250 tiles of “Tuscany Ujung Pandang”, 60 x 60 cm each. To be used at second floor.
– 200 tiles of “Tuscany Ujung Pandang”, 60 x 30 cm each. To be used in the bathrooms.
– 10 pieces of “Nero Portoro”, allegedly from Myanmar, about 60 x 180 cm each. To be used as a border.
Total price ended at Rp 84 million.
At a density of around 2500 kg per cubic meter, a slab/tile thickness of 2 cm, and a total area of 243 square meters, this translates to around 12 tons of marble stone!

Handling a marble slab, weighing around 160 kg.

Four men are required to put it down on the floor.
