Trip to Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands)
Friday, 15 April 2011Epicentrum Walk, Jakarta
Last weekend, 9-10 April, there were four of us making a trip to Pulau Seribu, or Thousand Islands in English, the chain of small islands north of Jakarta. We bought a package from Backpackseru, which included the boat trip out to the islands, another boat for island hopping, snorkeling gear, shelter, and meals. Including the four of us, the whole group tallied 20 people. Rp 375k per head.
We started from the port of Muara Angke, North Jakarta, around 07:00 on Saturday morning. The small cramped boat was packed with people, including our group of 20. Three hours later we reached the island that was our base for the trip. We unloaded our gear in the dormitory style accommodation, and went for island hopping around the islands. The time passed by on snorkeling, walking on the beaches, walking around the islands, and on the boat.
Afterwards we returned to the base and had our evening meal, fish and squid. In the night, almost everybody complained that they were not able to sleep because of the heat, but I had no problem whatsoever. I slept like a rock.
Next day, we returned to Jakarta, after a stop at Pulau Pramuka, an island one hour south from our base. The remaining two hours to Jakarta was on a very cramped boat, and people were almost fighting for a place to sit. I sat next to the toilet.
Before the trip, Cil had bought me a DiCAPac underwater case for my camera, at Mall Ambassador.
