Ubud, Bali

After inspecting 40 houses or so, a decision was finally made last week to buy a house in the Bangka area in South Jakarta. The first downpayment of 100 million was made on 8 June.

The area of the land plot is 207 m2.

Here are the price details (in Rupiah):

The house itself: 3 billion.
Fee to the broker: 70 million.
Tax to the government: around 88 million.
Fee to the Notarius Publicus: 12.5 million.

Total price: 3.17 billion, or USD 335,000.

Then there is the renovation costs to follow.

KITAS III

Friday, 15 June 2012
Ubud, Bali

My KITAS (residence permit) is painlessly renewed for another year. I submitted my application on 31 May, and picked up the new KITAS on 8 June. The price is the same as last year: Rp 755,000 in total.

Next month I am planning to convert the KITAS into a KITAP, a permanent residence permit.

Right now I am sitting at the veranda of the Narasoma lodging in Ubud, Bali. We were 6 people flying in to the island last Saturday. Flying back tomorrow.

Quick trip to Bandung

Sunday, 15 April 2012
Cibubur, Jakarta

We made a two-day trip to Bandung last Sunday until Tuesday because Caecil attended a meeting at the Holiday Inn, where we also stayed. I just followed for the sake of the trip and the free coffee.

There are minibuses going directly from Pasar Festival to Bandung, and takes two hours.

It was raining constantly in Bandung.

Since it is my birthday today, I am posting a picture of the menu of a restaurant that was born in a great year.

I didn’t visit this restaurant today, however.

Legalization of a document

Thursday, 2 February 2012
Taman Rasuna, Jakarta

I have just learned something new: How to legalize a document to be used in a foreign country, in this case a power of attorney to be used in Lithuania.

The fact that Indonesia is not a party to the Haag Convention of 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (the Apostille convention), makes things more complicated.

And since there is no Lithuanian embassy in Indonesia, this complicates things even further. There is a Honorary Consul here, but it appears that this person has not the power to legalize documents.

Here are the steps I took to legalize the power of attorney:

  1. Notarize the document at a notary public. Free (for me).
  2. Legalize the document at the Ministry of Justice. This took two days and cost Rp 25,000 plus stamp duty.
  3. Legalize the document at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This took one day and cost Rp 10,000 plus stamp duty.
  4. Legalize the document at my embassy. This took a few minutes and cost Rp 340,000(!)
  5. Finally, let the Honorary Consul of Lithuania witness the legalization. This took another day. Free.
