Visit by Uno & Mette, day 4

Taman Rasuna, Jakarta

28 September.

Back to unfinished business at Kota today. Walk around Glodok, the local Chinatown, where the traditional medicine shop was a highlight. Mediocre lunch at Cafe Batavia (the beer was good however).

Dinner at Lara Djonggrang in the evening (together with Caecil). In good Indonesian spirit the restaurant tricked us on the bill.

Firecrackers for sale in Glodok.

Walk around the fine neighbourhood of Menteng Atas, a stone’s throw from HQ. Guaranteed a tourist-free zone.

Fish meal at Epicentrum across the street in the evening, after Caecil was finished at the office.

26 September.

I took Uno and Mette for a walk around the old town of Kota in North-Jakarta today while Caecil spent the day working at the office. We walked from Taman Fatahillah to the old port of Sunda Kelapa (which was founded in 1527). Quick tea-stop at Cafe Batavia.

After office hours, we picked up Caecil and drove to the Cibubur residence for dinner.

Transporting of ice (to be used in Uno’s drinks).

Taman Rasuna, Jakarta

25 September.

Caecil and I had the pleasure of welcoming Uno and Mette at the airport today. They were coming all the way from Lillesand (Norway) to Jakarta to visit us.

After picking up our guests at the airport, we (with me as the driver) drove to HQ at Taman Rasuna, where they will be staying with us.

Beer at LEX across the street.

Empty streets of Jakarta

Taman Rasuna, Jakarta

Only once a year are the streets of Jakarta reasonably empty, and that is during the Idul Fitri holidays.

I grabbed this rare opportunity today and had an enjoyable bicycle trip around the city: Kuningan – Fatmawati – Kota – Gunung Sahari – Kuningan.

Minal ‘Aidin wal-Faizin.
