KITAS II: Day 3

Monday, 13 June 2011
Epicentrum Walk, Jakarta

I started the sunny day by picking up a letter from KanWil (granting me another year of residence) and bringing it to KanIm. KanIm needed a photocopy as well. Then came the time to pay the fee, Rp 755k in total (55k is for the photo). Done with that, they took my photo, and I signed the new KITAS card (yes!) Well back in Kuningan, KanIm surprisingly called me and said I had to return and sign the card again because of a mistake they had done. Moreover, sponsor was also required to sign the two application forms. So I returned, or more correctly, WE returned, to sign the damn papers. I was told to return on Thursday. The paperwork will be finished by then.

End of day 3.

I will read this again next year and make sure the application forms (and not just the sponsor letter) are signed by sponsor, since this is not intuitive.

The razzia on Thursday was broadcast on national TV station SCTV yesterday morning. Below is the video clip I downloaded from their website.

KITAS II: Day 2

Saturday, 11 June 2011
Taman Rasuna

Yesterday I went to the local immigration office (KanIm), submitted the legalized KTP and KK, taking fotocopies, collected an envelope with a letter, and hand-delivered it to the regional immigration office (KanWil). Was told to come back on Monday.

Razzia

Taman Rasuna, Jakarta

There is a razzia going on right now at the apartment complex here, and when they knocked on my door, around 10 gentlemen armed with a video camera wanted to check my passport and residence permit. They were officers from Immigration, among others, looking for illegal workers and immigrants.

I told them all my papers are currently with the immigration for renewal, so I had nothing to show. That was OK to them, and they left. My honest face was probably enough anyway, I guess.

KITAS II: Renewal of residence permit

Wednesday, 8 June 2011
Grand Indonesia, Jakarta

I have just started the procedure to renew my KITAS and related documents, which expires on 27 July. KITAS is the residence permit.

Yesterday I went to my local immigration office in East Jakarta (located next to the big Cipinang prison) to apply for the extension. These were the documents I submitted:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Passport.
  3. Old KITAS card.
  4. POA book (an immigration control booklet).
  5. Sponsor letter (with stamp duty).
  6. Two passport sized photos on red background.
  7. Copy of marriage certificate.
  8. Copy of old KITAS card.
  9. Copy of sponsor’s KTP (an ID card).
  10. Copy of sponsor’s KK (a document listing all family members).
  11. Copy of relevant passport pages.
  12. Copy of relevant POA book pages.

The only thing pointed out to me was that the copies of KTP and KK should be legalized by the local “Kantor Lurah” (the village office). Simply presenting the original documents (which I also did) was not good enough. I have never heard of such a requirement before. Anyway, my application was nonetheless duly received and accepted, and I will bring those legalized papers with me on Friday, when I am supposed to present myself at the immigration office again.
