A waffle

Two things can be said about Tuesday, 1 March: The first being Harco Glodok electronics market, where I and the anonymous CME spent the afternoon hours. The second being the waffle pictured below, which I consumed at a Belgian restaurant at Epicentrum Walk, together with Ellen, Caecil, and CME.

Sending a package

On Monday, 28 February, the anonymous CME sent a package with confidential content to Australia from the central post office after a failed attempt at Guntur post office, which is nearby Taman Rasuna.

The package weighed 2.25 kg and was sent with airmail at a rate of Rp 335,000. Not cheap.

CME is arriving

The anonymous CME arrived in Kuala Lumpur from ice cold Europe last Friday 25 February. He missed the scheduled flight from Paris and was one day late when I welcomed him on the same evening on Batam island outside Singapore.

A couple of hours earlier I had flown from Jakarta to Batam on Lion Air (Rp 343,900), while CME had flown from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore (and then catched a ferry to Batam).

I had booked a so-called family room at Hotel Istana Batam in downtown Nagoya at a rate of Rp 150,000 nightly. We stayed at the Pink Room 401.

After 2 quite eventless days in Batam, we flew to Jakarta, again on Lion Air (and again Rp 343,900), and met Ellen, whom had flown from Bali to Jakarta at the same time. Caecil picked all 3 of us up at the airport, and took us to Taman Rasuna after a meal.

Visiting Ellen in Bali

Caecil and I went to visit Ellen, who is staying in Ubud, Bali for the time being. We flew to Denpasar on Saturday, 12 February, and returned to Jakarta on Wednesday, 16 February, early in the morning.

We stayed at a pleasant midrange place called Narasoma, in the heart of Ubud. It’s more costly than I am used to, the room price was Rp 385k nightly for two persons (it’s Rp 275k for one person in the same room). Normally, when I’m on my own, I rather stay in questionable rock-bottom places, and try to keep the budget at Rp 100-150k max.

While in Ubud, we generally spent the days doing as little as possible, which suits me just fine. Reading books and sitting around at cafes. On Monday afternoon, however, we rented a car and drove to Jimbaran beach to sample the seafood.

Caecil and I stayed at this, now partly demolished, place back in 2003. Lod Tunduh village, south of Ubud. Only this building is still standing.
