I just did a test of the internet speed here at Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and the result is not bad at all, as can be seen below. The speed is measured between Indonesia and Norway, using my HSDPA wireless modem.
Download speed: 850 kbit/s
Upload speed: 354 kbit/s

The streets of Yogya

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

I took some pictures while roaming the streets of Yogya today.

Horse cart to the left, and becak (3-wheeled cycle rickshaw) to the right. Becak is my main form of transportation in Yogyakarta.

Bank Indonesia usually occupies the best buildings in town, and Yogyakarta is no exception.

High school students finished with 3 years of studying. As a sign of this they paint their uniforms.

A day at the grave yard

Sunday, 15 June 2008
Yogyakarta, Indonesia

When I was in Solo, I spent some time at the village grave yard to check out the construction of a grave. It’s not a new grave. It is customary to wait with the grave construction until the person has been dead for 1000 days.

This grave yard is for any person from the village, belonging to any of the 5 official religions: Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic, Protestant.

  1. Overview of the grave yard.
  2. Inspection of the grave before the construction work starts.
  3. Breakfast at the grave yard before the work starts.
  4. Preparation for the construction of the foundation of the grave.
  5. Unloading of the grave stone from the truck. It is a massive piece of rock, it does not have a cavity inside.
  6. This is the grave stone that will be put in place on top of the grave foundation. Born 1915, dead 19 September 2005. There is two shapes on top resembling stupas, since he was a Buddhist.
  7. Construction of the foundation. It will be semented to a flat surface before putting the grave stone on top.
  8. Construction.

Dog meat

Sunday, 15 June 2008
Yogyakarta, Indonesia

When I was in Solo, I had the pleasure to try dog meat.

This is fried dog meat.

And this is marinated dog meat (I preferred the fried version however).

And how about the taste? Not that bad actually, the closest I can think about is beef.
