Kawah Putih

Sunday, 9 November 2008
Bandung, Indonesia

Today we negotiated with a taxi driver outside our hotel to take us to Kawah Putih (White Crater), which is about 40 km south-west of Bandung. The trip lasted from 11:00 to 18:00 and cost Rp 400,000.

Kawah Putih is 2200 meter above sea level (according to my GPS), and is a sulphuric lake inside a volcanic crater. There is a strong odor of sulphuric acid from the lake, and the nearby trees are dead as a result. Still, the scenery is very beautiful.

Afterwards we made a short side trip to a nearby hot springs resort, which was nothing special.

Lunch in a small city called Ciwidey on the way back to Bandung. Indian buffet at hotel in the evening.
