TE 2009 – Day 13 (Aug 24)

Wednesday, 16 September 2009
Jakarta, Indonesia

The Gang of Four drove from the cabin at 11:30, with me as the driver. Destination today was Bergen, 350 km to the southwest. Ellen left the cabin at the same time, returning to Bogen near Sandefjord (to the southeast).

We made several stops en route, including at the 800-year-old, wooden, Borgund stave church. And crossing the Aurland mountan road, Astrid and Saras got the chance to touch snow for the first time. Lunch was prepared along the road using a disposable charcoal grill (I have never seen these devices in Asia by the way).

Finally, at 21:30 we arrived at Boya’s residence in downtown Bergen. Boya is an Indonesian citizen.

TE 2009 – Day 12 (Aug 23)

Tuesday, 15 September 2009
Jakarta, Indonesia

Another nice, sunny day.

We drove on the gravel road to the nearby Vinstra lake, including a stop near Stryta lake, where we found blueberry and cloudberry, which we ate on the spot. Picked some mushrooms too. Caecil and Astrid sunbathed on some rocks while I and Saras climbed a hill near Stryta lake.

After returning to the cabin, we mostly spent time on the veranda until it became too cold.

TE 2009 – Day 11 (Aug 22)

Tuesday, 15 September 2009
Jakarta, Indonesia

After saying goodbye to Uno, we drove from Trondheim in sunshine at 11:15 in Uno’s car, which we had borrowed. Next stop: the cabin in Valdres, 350 km from Trondheim.

We made a quick stop to eat, and another stop at “Ridderspranget”, a small river canyon.

We reached the cabin at 18:50. Ellen had arrived around 17:30.

It is worth mentioning that the night was clear and moonless, resulting in a great view of the stars of the night and the milkyway, although not quite as magnificent as on my visit to Pasir Panjang in June, 12,000 km away.

It was sunny during the day and around 11 °C near the cabin, and when we went to sleep it was around 3 °C.

TE 2009 – Day 10 (Aug 21)

Sunday, 13 September 2009
Jakarta, Indonesia

Again, Uno became the tour guide of the day for the Gang of Four, and took us out for another walk around Trondheim downtown.

We started with a visit at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), where Uno took us around various buildings, including the Institute of Industrial Economy and Technology Management, where Uno has his office, and where we were introduced to one of Uno’s colleagues as well. Also of interest was the 25 meter long Foucault pendulum, which proves that the Earth is rotating, at the Nature Sciences building.

We then continued our walk to the 850-year-old Nidaros Cathedral, including a climb up the tower with great views of Trondheim.

Continuing our walk, we strolled down to the city square, bought some strawberries and gooseberries, sat down at a cafe, and then took a bus in direction Uno’s residence around 16:15. We made a quick lift to the top of Tyholt television tower (with another great views of Trondheim) before walking to Uno’s residence nearby.

Day 10 was rounded off with Uno’s salmon meal creation.
