Day trip to Samarinda

Balikpapan, Indonesia

Today I, Caecil, and some friends, rented a car (a Kijang) and drove to Samarinda, a couple of hours north of Balikpapan. We had originally planned to make a stop at the jungles at Bangkerai, but since it had been raining quite heavy the last day, and the unpaved stretch of road to Bangkerai probably was in poor condition as a result, we decided to make a stop at Pulau Kumala instead. Pulau Kumala is a tiny island situated in the Mahakam river. I found it not too exciting, since the only attraction on Pulau Kumala is a dilapidated amusement park.

In Samarinda we watched a movie at the 21 cinema. We don’t have 21 in Balikpapan.
